ISLAM IS
The word ‘Islam’ means attainment of peace -both inner and outer- by submission of oneself to the code of conduct ordained by Almighty Allah, which means striving to organize one’s life in total accord with the commandments of the Creator as is revealed to His prophets and messengers. One who submits (his or her will to Almighty Allah, voluntarily) is called Muslim. Almighty Allah informs us the purpose of our creation is to submit to Him, worship Him and follow the instructions revealed to the prophets and messengers throughout history & in different parts of the world, starting with Adam (peace be upon him) & ending with Muhammad (peace be upon him). All prophets and messengers including Jesus (peace be upon him) and Muhammad (peace be upon him) were human beings and they conveyed Almighty Allah’s message to the people. As Almighty Allah is one, their message has been one and the same throughout. They and their followers submitted to the will of Almighty Allah and therefore were Muslims. Allah is an Arabic word, meaning ‘the One and Only True Deity’. The term has no plural or gender. It is interesting to note that Allah is the personal name of God in Aramaic, the language of Jesus (peace be upon him). Arabic-speaking Jews and Christians also refer to God as Allah. Nevertheless, for convenience of the non-Muslim readers, the word ‘God’ is used throughout the following text.

God alone is the Lord of the universe (its Creator and sustainer). He does not have a co-creator or son or partner in His dominion and actions. God is one, not only numerically but one without similitude in His Names and Attributes. God alone is worthy of worship which means no one is to be worshipped instead of Him or alongside Him, nor God is to be worshipped through any of his creatures i.e., no intermediaries, no confession and no clergy with specific authority.

There are six articles of faith that one must believe in order to be considered a Muslim.
(1) Belief in one God
(2) Belief in His Angels
(3) Belief in His books (including revealed on Abraham, Psalms revealed on David, Torah revealed on Moses, Gospel of Jesus revealed on Jesus and Quran revealed on Muhammad)
(4) Belief in His prophets and messengers. Twenty-five prophets mentioned by names in Qur’an are Adam, Nuh, Moses, Aaron, Abraham, Lot, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, David, Soloman, Yahya(John), Jesus, Idris (Enoch), Salih (Shaloh), Hood (Eber), Ayyoub (Job), Zacharias, Shoaib (Jethro), Dhulkifl (Eziekiel), Elias, Alyssa (Elisha), Yunus (Jonah) and Muhammad.
(5) Belief in the Day of Judgment (including Heaven and Hell)
(6) Belief in God’s Divine Decree means ‘God Ever Watching’. He knows everything that happened in the past, everything that is taking place now, and everything that will happen in the future. God’s divine knowledge is perfect.
There are five Pillars of Islam that one must believe in and practice in order to be considered a Muslim. One cannot be considered a Muslim if he or she denies that any one of these acts is obligatory.
(1) The declaration of faith, to testify that there is no one worthy of worship except God and Muhammad is His Messenger
(2) To pray five times a day
(3) To pay the yearly Charity
(4) To fast during the month of Ramadhan
(5) To make a pilgrimage to Makkah
